LATEST TECHNIQUES

The latest hair transplant techniques are very different from the traditional ones regarding the harvesting as such as the transplantation of the grafts.
In traditional hair transplant, the graft harvesting was made directly on the crown of the head with an electrical punch similar to a little drill. Thus, 4 mm diameter big round grafts each containing up to 20 bulbs were obtained. Those grafts were reinserted in big holes previously created on the bald area.
This technique, most of the time painful, was not only leaving ugly round scars on the back of the head but also big scabs could be seen for weeks. The result was far from being aesthetical since the hair was growing in conspicuous clumps.
This is the reason why hair transplant has suffered from a bad reputation for years.
Unfortunately, this old technique remains used nowadays by some clinics which are far behind in the field of hair transplant.

In contrast to the traditional hair transplant, the micrografting and ultra micrografting allow us to achieve excellent quality results. They complement each other perfectly well and shall be used in precise cases.

A nearly invisible extraction :
The drilling practice for hair harvesting on the crown of the head is obsolete nowadays. The technique used now is a simultaneous harvesting of a 1 cm width horizontal strip of hair previously cut at 1 mm length.
The incision is then stitched with absorbable suture so that the surrounding hair makes the scar nearly invisible.
The extracted strip is then divided into multiple small grafts which constitute the first difference between micrografts and ultra micrografts.

Grafts Preparation :

Ultra Micrografting Technique
The strip has to be cut on a special cutting block by hand by several
assistants exclusively trained for this very thorough task. They dissect the strip in multiple fragments which are then dissected one more time in follicular unit of 1 or 2 hairs sometimes 3 hairs as they exist in their natural state on our body. This very delicate stage is made possible thanks to the retro illumination so that any least tiny root can be seen which could not be possible by using visual inspection or even direct lighting. Therefore, nothing is wasted. Even white hair can be seen.

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
- A micrograft is a graft containing 3 to 4 hairs
- An ultra micrograft is smaller. It contains 1 to 2 hairs sometimes 3 hairs together.

Bald Area Preparation :

The preparation is quasi identical for both micro graft and ultra micro graft techniques.
This constitutes a very important stage because the quality of the final result depends on this preparation. It consists in realizing with an instrument called a micro blade or micro needle several tiny cutaneous incisions called micro-slits done on the bald area of the skull. These slits have generally a width of 1 millimetre. The micro slits are so fine that there is hardly any bleeding unlike in the traditional techniques. Furthermore the micro slit is harmless for the primitive hair roots already present on the top of the head unlike. This is a great advantage compared to the Laser technique (still used in some clinics!) which destroys those hairs by burning them; a common situation when one's wishes to increase the density of thin hair.

Of course these slits are not done at random:

  • They have to be created according to the new hair growing orientation
  • They should not respect a straight line but a broken line alignment in order to give the patient a natural hair frontline
  • A certain space degree between them has to be respected in order to reproduce a natural hair density from back to front.

In ultra micrografting technique, the micro slits can be done in greater numbers and closer from each others. And so, getting more density in one single session.

Grafting Transplantation

This constitutes the last stage of the grafting. The grafts are implanted one by one in the recipient incisions with a very fine instrument called micro tweezers or HIP (Patented Hair Implanter Pen also invented by doctor Pascal Boudjema) . Each graft is cautiously and fully inserted in each slit in a few millimetre depths. By doing so the graft fits right in the recipient area and only the superficial part of the hair (about 1 millimetre) remains visible.

In ultra micro grafting, one hair grafts will be implanted in the horse-shoe shape front area preferably in order to give a natural look according to the hair texture and colour.

The duration of the surgery depends mostly on the total amount of grafts to transplant. It can vary from 2 to 8 hours.

The logistic used by Marbella Hair Clinic is based on a Computerized Procedure Protocol developed by our Center. When this CPP is associated with the dexterity and the speed of the transplantation, it results in a greater number of excellent quality grafts transplanted in a record time!!!
